Parent Support Needed for an Additional Pre-K Class at Parkside

Author: Sara Blake

I am writing to solicit your help in trying to add a second Pre-K class at Parkside Elementary School for next year.  Currently there is only one class for 20 students and it is based on a lottery system.  Competition is going to be tough next year!  I am  trying to increase the odds of our children getting in--if there are two classes we will have a one in 40 chance!

I have spoken to Dr. Luck (the principal) and he has extra classroom space and is in favor of adding a second class.

I have also spoken to one of the directors in APS, Dihanne Hayes, who could help make this happen.  She stated that there is definitely a possibility of adding a class at Parkside, but one of the things she will need is to show Bright From The Start (the state agency over PreK) is that there is community/parent support and enough children out there to justify another class.

If you could please take five minutes of your time to email Ms. Hayes at dlhayes@atlanta.k12.ga.us to let her know that there are PLENTY of future Pre-K kids in our community who could support a second class at Parkside.

They will also be looking at the data from last years lottery which shows there were enough kids to fill up SEVERAL classes--but she wants to show data for next year and future years.

And if you know any other parents with rising PreK children, please forward this info on to them as well.

THANKS YA'LL!!
