Labor Doula "Divine Deliverance Doula's"
A doula (pronounced Doo-la) is a term from the Greek language meaning a "woman who serves."
Birth doulas are re-creating the woman-to-woman network of the past. Having another woman present to provide reassurance and encouragement has been seen throughout history. Unfortunately, as birth has been taken out of our communities, the experienced loving support of sisters, mothers, aunts, and friends has also diminished. Most women do not share or participate in a birth until they are experience their own. This is where a birth doula can be so helpful. We understand the emotional and physical complexities of birth, we can instill confidence and trust in you and your body. We are able to increase the intimacy of the experience for a mother and her partner by managing the fears of both parents and providing useful comfort techniques for the mother. We also help facilitate communication with your maternity care team.
Lead Teacher Position Available at Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool
Oakhurst Cooperative Preschool is now accepting resumes from qualified candidates for a Lead Teacher position in the two-year old classroom for the 2010-2011 school year. We seek individuals who are looking to join a community-minded, parent-led cooperative environment. Creating a community of parents, teachers and children within our school is critically important to our success as a cooperative preschool. Although OCP is overseen by a board of parent volunteers, it is our staff which creates the special "nido" environment that enables our children to learn, play and grow together. To Apply: Please send a letter of introduction, resume, and three references to ocppersonnel@gmail.com. Applications and more information are available on our website: www.oakhurstcoop.com.

Children's Rights Petition - Guatemala 900 Mother's Day Plea
GPCP Alum Merry Preiditsch writes: I'm sending this note out in hope you have a minute to read this very important petition, and sign if you support it. We adopted Cole from Guatemala four years ago and have been blessed ever since. A change in the adoption laws a few years ago resulted in hunderds of cases to be stalled - and the children have to remain in temporary housing while their cases continue to spin through the court system. (The new law aims to prevent horrible things that were happening to pregnant women there for traffickers who would then sell the babies, often killing and torturing the mothers.)

Last week, early Wednesday morning, my shop, "Pin Up Girl! Cosmetics", had a large brick thrown through the front left window. Nothing was stolen. Then yesterday about 10am, a client of mine told me her house on Boulevard SE had the front door kicked in. Some vintage jewelry was stolen, a Nikon D60 camera and an organic apple. Baby Signs Program
Using the BABY SIGNS® Program gives babies a way to “talk” with their parents before they can talk. Babies can communicate about the world around them long before they have mastered their verbal speaking skills!
Babies and their parents can use simple signs to communicate important things – like being hungry or thirsty, hot or cold, afraid or sad – often a full year before babies could otherwise speak.
Research has proven that using the BABY SIGNS® Program has dramatic benefits, including decreasing frustration for babies and parents, enriching the parent-child bond, boosting emotional development, helping babies talk sooner – even raising IQ.

Mud Monster, Please come home
Can you help the Grant Park Cooperative Preschool locate the stolen mud monster mosaic statue? The Grant Park Cooperative Preschool's "Down Earth, Up Sky/Mud Monster" mosaic sculpture was stolen in March 2009. If you have noticed this 8' tall, 200+ pound sculpture in the courtyard in front of the preschool - someone, or several someones, liked it enough to drive away with it. We would very much like to have it back as it was a two-year-long project at the school.
